Disc Golf Weekend

This weekend was Alan's first taste of competitive disc golf. He participated in back-to-back tournaments (one Saturday and the next on Sunday).

The first tournament was the BC Disc Golf Provincials in Langley, British Columbia. The tournament consisted of about 7 divisions that span gender, skill level, and age. Since this was Alan's first tournament (and he's only been playing for about 3 months), he played in the Novice division with about 6-8 other golfers.

The tournament consisted of two rounds of 18 holes. The event kicked off around 10am and awards were handed out at about 6pm. It was a full day's worth of disc golf!

He wasn't expecting to win anything his first time out, but he ended up placing 2nd in his division!

For placing second, he won 2 new discs (DX Wraith and Pro Starfire). He also brought home one of the CTP (Closest to Pin) for Novice and Grand Masters (60+ year-old players).

The second tournament was the Cornwall Classic in Bellingham, WA.

This was a 42-hole tournament (2 rounds of 21 holes). Alan participated in the Amateur division (no Novice division in this tournament). He played with his good friend, Mark Mesdag (his first tournament). Both of them had a great time playing, but didn't come home with any prizes. Alan was somewhere in the mid to upper half of the division.

So, all-in-all it was 78 holes of disc golf played this weekend and countless miles walked! I'm confident there will be plenty more golf tournaments in Alan's future. If you didn't know, he's pretty competitive and he has fallen in love with the sport of disc golf.

Congrats, Mr. Palmer! I've played me some disc golf once before and certifiably suck-diddly-uck at it. The trees are not my friend.
