For a long time Tracy and I have used our Canon PowerShot S2 IS and we've really enjoyed that camera. However, today I've upgraded to a digital SLR: the Canon Digital Rebel (300D)!
It's an older camera (came out several years ago), but I wanted to get a low cost digital SLR that I can play with before dropping over $1000 on a camera. So, I found this one on Craigslist for $250 (Canadian, so about $200 US). It came with the kit lens, a battery grip, UV filter, a couple memory cards, and a few spare batteries.
It was a beautiful afternoon so Tracy came and picked me up from the SeaBus terminal and on our way home we stopped at a park and snapped a few pictures of Paigey. The cherry blossoms are starting to pop out so we had to take some pictures of that too... here's a couple pictures from our outting:

So funny I am looking online at cameras as we speak ! :) I would love an SLR but don't know who I could find such a awesome deal like that!!! Great great pictures!!!!
I just did a search for "Digital Rebel" on my local craigslist for several weeks to find a good deal on one. I bet you could do the same if you look for an older model like mine (plain Digital Rebel aka 300D). The Digital Rebel XT (aka 350D) is also relatively cheap (probably more like $300 or so).
Ooohh thanks for the info! I think good cameras are so important specially when you have a little one to capture so many moments! Ilook forward to lots and lots more pictures now :)

I found it on other webitses for around $250 and they say its a good starter camera before moving to SLR and it does everything I need it to at this point plus has a 20x zoom which is great!
We're going on an Alaskan cruise in June/July sometime so I will really get to put it into action then!

I miss you. Your baby is so sweet. I loved looking at all these adorable pictures. We are moving back to SLO, so we've been working like crazy around here getting our house ready to sell and then showing it regularly.

Camera still working for you? I was actually looking at some SLR's in a store today but I think I'll need to research some older models like you did in order to stay in my price range.
