Europe 2010 - Hamburg

Hamburg

St. Michaelis Church

Today we drove from St Peter Ording back to Hamburg. Then we spent the day sightseeing around Hamburg with Ben and Nadine. We started at St Michaelis church. We walked up 9 flights of stairs to reach the viewing platform of the bell tower and we were able see the entire city. Then we took the elevator down (I think we did that backwards). Then we saw the sanctuary and went downstairs into the crypt which housed a very old German Bible as well as the remains of one of Johann Sebastian Bach’s sons.

We then walked down to the river Elbe and the dock that lines it. There were a ton of tour boats that take people around Hamburg as well as shops, resteraunts, and street performers. (Little known fact: Hamburg has over 2300 bridges! More than any other city in the world.)

We went from there to a fair that was happening in order to get some lunch. On our way we got to see the entrance to Herbertstraße in Hamburg's red light district. The sign at the entrance to the street reads "No entrance for juveniles under 18 years of age and women."

We snapped our photo and continued on to the fair where we got a large German sausage, a chocolate covered banana, and some small donut-like things. The fair was quite big and it took about 30-45 minutes to make the full loop back to where we started.

At this point we were quite tired of walking so we made our way back to the car and headed back to Ben’s parents house where we ate a small dinner and went to bed.

We had a GREAT time in Hamburg and had some of the best, local tour guides! However, the highlight to our stop came when we returned home to Ben's parents' house...

We found out Tracy is SCHWANGER!!!

We hadn't been preventing since Paige was born but we weren't expecting to get pregnant since we had medical help with Paige. But Tracy was late for her period and was planning on tasting some regional alcoholic beverages while in Europe so we tested and got the good news! She is due May 1 so stay tuned for more info as it goes.

I'd love to tell you more... but you now know about as much as we do. We had the first ultrasound and everything seemed ok. I'm sure Tracy will update everyone on her side of things eventually.
